This is a horrible idea. Many counties already have a 10% to 15% transient occupancy tax applicable to short term rentals. Another 14% will drastically negatively impact the private homeowners that depend on this income to meet daily living expenses. Additionally it will harm local small businesses that depend on the related tourism dollars.

Do not force an onerous tax on mom and pop owner's of rentals when you know it will only help hotels gain business as this tax will put vacation homes at an economic disavatage to hotels who do not pay the tax. If you really want to increase affordable housing, lower the permits and regulations pushing costs far above what they are in other states.

I am against the passage of this bill as it would hurt Airbnb rental owners who are already facing financial difficulties due to high inflation and interest rates. Additionally the bill will negatively impact future renters due to the impact on their budgets causing loss of tourism in the local area consequently negatively impacting many local businesses who are already suffering due to other events in the last few years including Covid and inflation
