THE ALGEBRA 1 EOC AND ELA SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT BE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS. THERE ARE OVER 40 STATES WHO DO NOT HAVE THESE REQUIREMENTS, AND THEIR STUDENTS ARE DOING GREAT IN COLLEGE. COLLEGES DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THESE TESTS. ALSO, NOT ALL STUDENTS PLAN TO GO TO COLLEGE, SO WHY HOLD THEM BACK FROM RECEIVING THEIR HS DIPLOMA BECAUSE OF 2 TESTS?? SOME STUDENTS ARE A/B STUDENTS. SOME ARE ONLY 3 POINTS BELOW THE PASSING SCORE ON THESE TESTS AND THEIR FUTURES ARE EXTREMELY DAMAGED BECAUSE OF THIS! THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW THINGS THAT I ABSOLUTELY HATE ABOUT FLORIDA AND FEEL EMBARRASSED WHEN I TELL PARENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING MOVING HERE THAT THEIR STUDENT MUST PASS THESE 2 TESTS IN ORDER TO GRADUATE. OVER THE YEARS, ABOUT 28 FAMILIES THAT I AM CLOSE TO CHANGED THEIR MINDS ABOUT MOVING TO FLORIDA BECAUSE OF THIS. SOME FEEL THAT DELETING THESE REQUIREMENTS WOULD DOWNGRADE THE DIPLOMA’S VALUE TO A “PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATE”. DO THEY REALLY FEEL THAT THE STUDENTS OF THE 40+ STATES THAT DO NOT HAVE THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT REALLY GRADUATING, BUT HAVE ONLY “PARTICIPATED”???
