This bill may stop some deserving kids from going to college because they can't get financial support from both parents. Unfortunately, with a divorce, there are lots of issues of financial involvement by both parents and one parent usually ends up supporting the children more than the other. If this bill is passed, it would allow one parent the opportunity to put more of the financial burden of college on the other parent or child. If both parents are involved in their child's life after a divorce, and both parents have jobs and are financially able to take on a portion of the college expenses, I don't believe there should be a way for one parent to legally back out because they just don't want to spend the money.
