I would support AB 1310. My son was a youth offender charged as an adult and plead to a gun enhancement even though he did not point a gun at anyone or personally injured anyone. At 17 years old he was sentenced to 20 years (longer than he has been on this earth) and today he is 30 years old spent 12 1/2 years behind bars. I'm a believer you do the crime you do the time however I don't believe is how Prosecutors stack charges with these enhancements.

Yes I support the bill.

Too many people as well as families are destroyed due to California's unjust and extremely harsh enhancement laws. This bill will further restorative justice to make those convicted positive and successful members of society.

My fiancé has been in prison since he was 19. The time that he received for the actual crime was drastically less. For 30 to life to be added to that sentence is crazy. If not for this gun enhancement, he’d already be home. He’s not even a violent person with a history of violence. Right place, wrong time. I myself believe that people change. People also make mistakes. We as adults make mistakes all of the time, we aren’t punished for that crime for our lives. It’s not our jobs to be the person to pass judgement on anyone simply because there life isn’t your life. People go through things that you wouldn’t believe, it shapes them in a way. We as a society have to help to fix that. ( trauma we face during childhood) Providing counseling for those individuals who have abandonment issues, those who have been displaced. Those who struggle with depression. Torey has been through many of these obstacles. Being held up at gun point by the victim didn’t help his situation. He lives with regret for the lives affected by the decision he made. He just wants a second chance. To prove he’s not the man his record says he is. #freeToreyPhillips #F40022
